.50 Action Express – This cartridge has been the brunt of many jokes and disparaging comments in the past.  The fact of the matter is that this cartridge is not only one of the most powerful handgun cartridges in the World, but also a very capable Heavy Game cartridge when paired with the right bullet. The fact is that there are very few ammunition manufacturers loading proper hunting loads for this cartridge. Many manufacturers will try and load lighter bullets to slightly higher velocities. This gives the “ballistic data” higher values such as energy and velocity. The truth is this only increases the failure rate of the bullet itself once it makes contacts with the animal. This usually ends up wounding the poor animal and horrific situation to say the least.  When you pair the right bullet and load to your quarry the .50AE is no longer the “joke of YouTube” and or the internet in general!
