.480 RUGER

Description

.480 RUGER – This is one of our favorite big bore revolver hunting cartridges. When loaded properly it can achieve 92% of the “top” ballistics of the mighty .475 Linebaugh.  On the other hand, it can be loaded down much easier and more safely than that of the Linebaugh. In otherwards it’s a much more versatile cartridge. The sad thing about the .480 Ruger is that during its premier they, (Hornady + Ruger) limited the cartridges ballistics and bullet weights to help the cartridge operate correctly and safely in their Super Redhawk six shot platform. The secondary problem was powders used commercially in this cartridge.  These powders were just a touch to fast and gave most shooters sticky case extraction and moderate velocities. We discovered by introducing our own in-house powder blends we could bump velocities up by 15 to 20% over any other manufacturer and without increasing case pressure levels. This allows us at Aria Ballistic Engineering to deliver damn near .475 Linebaugh top velocities and bullet weights in the much more efficient and versatile .480 Ruger cartridge.
